The first b-sides or extra tracks collection of The Edit King called \u00ab BESIDES Volume 1 \u00bb was released on Friday, August 16th 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It reunites for the first time the b-sides of extra-tracks from all The Edit King singles released from December 2021 (first single \u00ab Prayers Oh So Strong \u00bb to March 2023 (21st single \u00ab Be Your Friend \u00bb).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love my b-sides or extra-tracks because they allow me to go beyond the strict style of the main album and experiment more. The most obvious example of that is the 7 minutes long original version of track \u00ab Ain’t It Sad \u00bb available on this album at tracks 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only it is the longest The Edit King track ever but also its style is like no other in my The Edit King’s discography. First b-sides \u00ab Dig Deep \u00bb or \u00ab Peaceful Battalion \u00bb are also highly experimental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

B-sides or extra-tracks are essential in the writing process of an album. Usually I start making the main album, not only writing 10 tracks for the main album but making 15 to 16 tracks as a whole. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then, the dispatching process begins, deciding which tracks will end up on the main album and which tracks will end up as b-sides. At least that’s what I am making now each time I write an album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But for the first 4 albums, the b-sides and extra-tracks came from all kind of original. Often not even being written the same year of the main albums tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it happens that the album is clearly finished but then came another amazing track, supposed to be a b-side or an extra-tracks made specially for a single but it finally ends up on the main album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It happened for the track \u00ab The Road To Who You Really Are \u00bb which I loved very much so I decided to put it on the album \u00ab RAVE PARTY \u00bb even if the 10 tracks of album were already made and chosen. That’s why the album ended up having 11 tracks instead of just the usual 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I made the track \u00ab Chance Is All Around \u00bb : track 15 to replace it as a brand new b-side or extra-track which I personally find quite weak but it was made so quickly that it could explain how weak it was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But on the other hand some tracks are clearly amazing and I love them very much like \u00ab Free Like A Star Seed\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Angels Dancing\u00a0\u00bb or \u00ab\u00a0Rivers Of Blood\u00a0\u00bb which often get my friends and family member telling me \u00ab\u00a0You’re crazy this track is amazing and SHOULD be on the main album\u00a0\u00bb ah ah. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as a fan of bands like Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys or The Cure in mes younger years, bands I absolutely loved some of their b-sides or extra-tracks more than I enjoy some of their album songs, my way of making music have clearly been influenced by those bands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So nowadays it is very important for me to also produce high quality tracks even for simple things as b-sides or extra tracks for my singles or my EPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
